Targeted Youth Support

The Targeted Youth Support Service (TYS) works with young people aged 11 to 19 years (up to 25 with SEND), who require additional support to help them make informed choices and maintain positive pathways, through one-to-one support and group work programmes in home, school, and community settings.

We offer specific, tailored interventions aimed at young people and their families who need extra provision on top of universally provided services. We work with each young person from their own starting point, drawing in partners, peer and parents as appropriate, challenging and enabling them to understand the consequences of their actions. Our aim is to support them into successful pathways and to make positive choices.

We support those facing challenges such as:

  • Risk of anti-social behaviour
  • Exposure to gangs, violence, or criminal activity
  • Substance misuse or poor mental health
  • Teenage parenthood or young carer responsibilities
  • School exclusion or low educational engagement

Our team of practitioners provide:

  • Tailored one-to-one support and group programmes
  • Delivered in schools, homes, and community settings
  • Focused on early intervention to prevent escalation into other statutory intervention

We work with each young person from their own starting point, involving families, peers, and professionals to help them:

  • Understand the consequences of their actions
  • Make informed decisions
  • Stay on positive pathways

TYS work alongside other services, including Children's Social Care (CIN and CP plans), Schools, Colleges, Police, Youth Justice Service (YJS) and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). This also includes step downs from Children's Social Care and Youth Offending Service.

We also support step-downs from social care and youth offending services and offer diversion programmes for young people who come to police attention for low-level offences.

Our direct support includes:

  • Substance misuse awareness
  • Healthy relationships and sexual health
  • Online safety and digital resilience
  • Exploitation and weapon awareness
  • Joint enterprise and personal safety
  • Strategies to support emotional wellbeing
  • Building social skills and community networks to improve long term resilience
