Youth Participation

✋What is Youth Participation?

Youth participation means involving young people in decisions that affect their lives. It's about giving YOU a voice, choice, and influence in how services are designed, delivered, and improved.

This can include:

  • Taking part in youth councils, advisory boards, and forums

  • Helping plan events or projects

  • Giving feedback on services

🌟 Why is Youth Participation Important?

Youth participation matters because:

  • Its important to influence decisions that affect you whether that's individually, operationally or strategically.
  • Strategically - decisions about long-term planning, and that influence policy and practice.

✅ It empowers young people to make decisions about their lives

When young people are heard and involved, they feel valued, confident, and more in control of their lives.

✅ It improves services and decisions and delivery

Young people bring unique insights and lived experiences. Involving them helps youth services become more relevant, accessible, and effective.

✅ It influences policy

Participation can help impact long term planning and influence policy and practices moving forward.

How we do participation 🧩

We use the Lundy model of participation, a practical framework for understanding and promoting meaningful youth participation.

The model breaks participation down into four key elements that must be in place for young people's voices to truly be heard:
